For all those Black Friday shoppers, I hope you made it home safely.  Can you believe the deaths and injuries that happened across our nation just because people wanted a good deal?  My question would be  "Is that item really something you need, or just something you want?"  I do love Christmas, but things are getting pretty crazy out there just for some stuff that will be out of date in a few months.  I think it's time to take a step back, relax and evaluate our lives before this year ends and I'm more than willing to stay home and let everyone else go to the mall.  That doesn't mean I won't be out shopping later to buy things I want to give to loved ones, it just means I will be better focused on what really counts.........and that is that I have people in my life who I love and who love me.  Following are some quotes and a story that were recently sent to me.

'To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.'
When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely
opening your hands to receive something better.

'
The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect

you.

John is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, 'If I were any better, I would be twins!'

He was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day, John was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up and asked him, 'I don't get it!

You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?'

He replied, 'Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or ... you can choose to be in a bad mood.

I choose to be in a good mood.'

Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or...
I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.

Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or... I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.

'Yeah, right, it's not that easy,' I protested.

'Yes, it is,' he said. 'Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood.
You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your life.'

I reflected on what he said. Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.

I saw him about six months after the accident.

When I asked him how he was, he replied, 'If I were any better, I'd be twins...Wanna see my scars?'

I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.

'The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be born daughter,' he replied. 'Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or...I could choose to die. I chose to live.'

'Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?' I asked.

He continued, '..the paramedics were great.
They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But w hen they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man'. I knew I needed to take action.'

'What did you do?' I asked.

'Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,' said John. 'She asked if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes, I replied.' The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply.
I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Gravity'.'

Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.'

He lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude... I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything
.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.' Matthew 6:34.

After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

Thanksgiving

This year has gone so quickly!  Hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving and that we all can look at the way God has provided for us this year.  Although materially, things are not necessarily great, God continues to bless me with peace of mind, compassion, grace, forgiveness and the love that only He can provide.  I know of so many people who prefer to consider themselves the victim when adversity comes their way.  I believe that adversity brings out the true character in a person.  An attitude of gratitude and recognition and realization of grace that was given to one can make all the difference in the future.

Count your blessings!  Name them one by one. :)

Teachers

So often I hear people say they want to be  teacher so they can have the whole summer off.  As a former teacher I can tell you that no good teacher has the whole summer off.  By the time they have closed out the last records for the year, ordered the next year's books and/or classroom equipment, repaired the current year's books and equipment, talked to the lingering parent and student assuring them that they had a good year, cleaned up their classroom(s), sat through the last teacher meeting and started lesson plans for the next year, summer is half over.  After a week of being in a coma the brain starts working again looking for new ideas for next year, researching methods, scouring the area for new field trip ideas and thinking about "Johnny" and wishing to have spent more one on one time with him, and vowing to do better at knowing each student in a closer way next year.  Then they take a quick trip with family or friends and have a couple of meetings/lunches with fellow teachers and discuss how to do it better next year.  The next thing you know it's time to head back into the classroom to clean toff he summer dust, reorganize, make sure everything works, meet with the principal, meet with other teachers, study the student roster and try to get an idea of what each student and family will bring into the chemistry of the class.  Count the books, order more that didn't show up, wipe down the desks, make nametags, rosters, bulletin board displays and find supplies to pay for out of pocket. Then comes the sounds of laughter, tears, excitement, dread mixed with the smells of peanut butter, tuna, bus exhaust, soap scrubbed faces and sweaty hair.  Summer is gone again........even thought they had the whole summer off.

Perfect Teacher!

A Teacher Is…
Someone who is wise...
Who cares about the students and wears no disguise.
But is honest and open and shares from the heart.
Not just lessons from books, but life where you are.
A teacher takes time to help and tutor.
With English or math or on a computer.
It's my who's patient, even in stress.
Who never gives less than the very best!
Not that I was the perfect student,
But you were the perfect teacher for me!
--Author Unknown

That's my tribute to teachers, our most overworked and underpaid professionals.  I love and respect you all and pray for a good year for you and your students.  I assure you, teachers, it's worth it.  I still hear from former students from across the land.  And sometimes when I go back to that city and adult will grab my arm on the street and exclaim, "Mrs Franck!!!  You're still my favorite teacher!"

Here she is

_MG_8325-1 Shaelee Jill Franck was born on April 25th weighing in at 7 lbs. 14 oz and a long 22 inches.

_MG_8243These two pictures are at one week old.

She was beautiful then and gets more gorgeous every day.  Somedays she looks like her Mom and somedays she looks and acts just like her Dad did when he was a baby.  I love babysitting for her and we entertain each other quite well.  Last week I taught her how to do laundry.  She laid in her little "recliner" in the hallway by the laundry room while I explained everything to her as I sorted, spot sprayed, chose water temps, etc.   I'm fairly certian she will be doing their family laundry within weeks.  I also take her on tours of her home and explain what each room is used for and tell her about pictures on the wall, colors, appliances, sounds and smells.

She is now 3 months old gaining weight and length like a wild woman and her head size and length are in the 95th percentile, while her weight is in the 50% percentile.  So I think that means she is tall and thin with a ton of brains.  She smiles all the time, but I can seldom catch it with these digital cameras and their time delays.

Shaelee July 08 027"Yes, my shirt says I was born to dance and Grandma says it will be just fine with her."

Shaelee July 08 025 "You know you want to smooch my head."

Shaelee July 08 019 "Grandma says these are yummy!"

.........and when I'm with Shaelee I seldom breathe out because all I want to do is inhale.  She smells delicious.
